The official Lava source states that Water touching Lava evaporates into Steam. It also states that this Water-to-Steam reaction does not decrease the Lava amount. That is the factual basis for a renewable Water or Steam loop.

The source does not publish a measured infinite-water blueprint, exact throughput, or proof that every chamber is lossless. Steam still needs to be captured and returned to Water. A claim that any open Lava pool automatically provides infinite usable Water would go beyond the evidence.

Build a small closed test loop

Use a contained Lava surface and deliver a limited Water batch to the contact area. Enclose the space above so rising Steam cannot freely escape. Route the recovered state back toward a separate settled Water chamber before reconnecting continuous input.

Observe one complete cycle and compare the starting and recovered Water. Do not add production consumers such as wetting lines or Snowmakers during the first test. Their normal consumption would make it impossible to distinguish conversion loss from recipe use.

Protect the Lava source

Water contact itself does not reduce Lava in the documented reaction, but other equipment can. The official note says Thermal Buffers placed in direct contact may slowly consume Lava. Keep direct heating hardware away from the preserved reaction surface unless that consumption is intended.

Snow also produces a different result: it turns Lava into Scoria. Keep Snow and Ice out of the Steam chamber, or the reusable liquid surface can become solid material. Seal the lower edges before adding Water because raw Lava cannot be recovered with a standard Pump.

Account for Water movement and losses

Water that does not settle can enter the documented evaporation and rain behavior. Escaped Steam or rain outside the collection area is not immediately available to the factory. A closed chamber and a settled reservoir make the cycle easier to verify.

Corner leaks, mixed pipe networks, and a badly positioned Vent can also send Water away from the intended path. Keep this loop on its own fluid network. Add filters or production consumers only after the source, conversion chamber, and return pool operate visibly.

Keep the conclusion within the evidence

The reliable conclusion is narrow: Lava can convert Water to Steam without being consumed by that particular contact. A recoverable cycle is therefore mechanically plausible when Steam is captured and returned. The collected keyword source does not support a universal machine count, chamber dimension, or guaranteed output rate.

Use any community design as a testable arrangement rather than a proven perpetual blueprint. Version changes can affect fluid movement, condensation, or containment. Measure the behavior in the current save before connecting the loop to essential production.
