Sandustry Puzzles: Read the Room Before Mining It

Look for deliberate room shapes, arrows, symmetry, unusual materials, or an Artifact beyond an obstacle. Test the relevant interaction first; if current equipment does nothing, mark the room and return after more research.

Identify an intentional puzzle room

Look for geometry that appears designed rather than naturally generated: arrows, symmetry, repeated blocks, a contained liquid, or an Artifact visible beyond an obstacle. These features usually signal an interaction puzzle. Stop mining indiscriminately and inspect the materials in the room.

Positions change with generated maps, so a screenshot coordinate from another save is not a dependable solution. The reusable clue is the relationship between the room’s materials and the tools the player has unlocked. Follow the layout rather than trying to reproduce someone else’s route through the world.

Match materials to unlocked tools

A burnable barrier suggests the Flamethrower, while frozen or Snow-related structures suggest a breaking or temperature interaction. A dark enclosed route suggests bringing the Flashlight. If every current tool has no effect, the room may be gated behind later research.

Testing should be controlled. Try the most obvious interaction on a small part of the obstacle and watch the material state change. Do not destroy the surrounding walls first because that can hide the intended clue or complicate access to the reward.

Solve the Frostbed Water crossing

The collected example places an Artifact across Water with Frostbed material positioned above or near the pool. Break the Frostbed so Snow falls into Water. The Snow freezes the Water and creates a path that can be crossed.

The key is the Snow-and-Water reaction, not a fixed room coordinate. Check that the falling material reaches the pool before clearing more of the structure. If the Water amount is too small, official notes warn that Snow may disappear rather than forming useful Ice.

Claim and verify Artifact rewards

Artifact rooms award Augments that improve utility, movement, or related capabilities. After reaching the Artifact, interact with it and confirm the reward appeared. Do not assume the puzzle is complete merely because the room opened.

The collected footage includes specific rewards from individual runs, but those observations should not be generalized into a guaranteed order. Map generation and progression can change the sequence in which rooms are found. Record the claimed reward rather than publishing an unsupported universal list.

Leave and return when necessary

Tool-gated rooms are designed to be revisited. Mark the location, continue research, and return with the relevant unlock instead of forcing an unsupported route. This preserves the puzzle and avoids unnecessary excavation.

For a dark maze, use the Flashlight, follow branches deliberately, and backtrack from dead ends. For navigation trouble outside the intended puzzle, the beginner source documents an unstuck command. Use that recovery option rather than treating terrain destruction as the puzzle solution.

Ancient ruins can also suggest factory layouts or contain useful structural patterns. Not every deliberate room is solved by the same tool, and not every ruin contains the same reward. Read local materials, test one interaction, and confirm the result before moving on.
