Sandustry Water: Sources, Routing and Production Uses
Use Water to make Wet Sand and Wet Seeds, and move it with a Pump, Pipes, and a Liquid Vent. Keep liquid networks separated, seal corners carefully, and remember that loose droplets can evaporate into the rain buffer if they do not settle.
Find and create Water
Water appears in surface lakes and underground deposits. The official material also lists Ice and Steam as related states: melting Ice can provide Water, while cooled or condensed Steam can return to Water. Rain created through the Steam cycle is another source.
Lumlings are identified as a possible Water-related source in the collected material. Community layouts place them above the intended water line and use containment to control the pool, but exact creature counts in the collected comments conflict. This guide therefore does not publish an unsupported production ratio.
Use Water in verified recipes
One Sand plus one Water produces two Wet Sand according to the official page. One Seed plus one Water produces one Wet Seed. Wet Sand feeds the Shaker for early Gold, while Wet Seeds feed Planter Boxes for Flowers.
Snow changes Water into Ice, and fire changes it into Steam. Snowmakers also consume Water. These state changes mean a shared pool can disappear into production even when no visible pipe leak exists.
Move Water with Pumps and Pipes
Use a Pump to draw Water, Pipes to carry it, and a Liquid Vent to release it at the destination. Keep different liquids on separate networks because a Vent can favor the nearest available fluid. Advanced Filters can select liquids, while ordinary filter behavior should not be treated as equivalent.
A low outlet and a deliberate overflow height make a small pool easier to control. Community builds often put the Pump near the bottom and choose Vent height to limit the fill level. Test this behavior with a small supply before connecting a large lake.
Seal pools and factory chambers
Water flows downhill and settles into depressions. Blocks, Conveyors, and suitable infrastructure can contain it, but corners are common leak points. Inspect the completed shape before running Seeds, Sand, or machinery through it.
Wet Seeds remain suspended because their listed density matches Water. This makes a simple bottom drain unreliable for separating them. Provide a controlled path or filter strategy rather than expecting every Wet Seed to sink.
Understand evaporation, Steam, and rain
Loose Water droplets that do not settle within the documented 45-second window can evaporate into the rain buffer. They may later fall again as rain rather than remaining where the factory released them. Enclosed, settled pools reduce that unpredictable movement.
Water contacting Lava becomes Steam without reducing the Lava through that reaction. A sealed Steam area can therefore support a regeneration chain, but the collected source does not establish that every layout is perfectly lossless. Keep Steam, Water, and Lava containment independently observable.
Small Water quantities combined with Snow may disappear instead of producing a useful Ice block, according to the official troubleshooting notes. Scale a freezing setup only after confirming that enough settled Water is present. When a pool shrinks, trace recipes, evaporation, and state changes before assuming a wall leak.
